Services
Legacy Scrap is a full-service scrap yard located on 17 acres for quick, easy access and fast in-and-out dump times. We have 6 non-ferrous docks to serve multiple customers at once and several truck scales on site, each certified twice a year for accuracy.
We’re conveniently located at the corner of Route 41 and Route 173, less than a mile from I-294, and about 30 minutes from O’Hare. Whether you’re a contractor, homeowner, or business, we make recycling scrap metal easy and efficient.
Things to know before you arrive
1. Bring a Photo ID
State law requires photo ID be kept on file for all metal recycling facilities.
2. Go to the Office
Look for signage that says Legacy Scrap—there are two businesses on site.
3. Get Directions
Our staff will direct you where to go next.
4. Unload Your Materials
You’ll dump your materials as instructed.
5. Return to the Office to Get Paid
After dumping, come back to the office to receive your payment.
Last Call for Scale Gate: 3:30 PM
Why this matters: While our official closing time is 4:00 PM, unloading and processing often takes longer—meaning staff may have to stay well past closing if customers arrive right before 4:00. That’s why we have a strict 3:30 PM last call for unloading. Arriving after 3:30 PM means we may not be able to accept your load that day. Please plan your visit so you have enough time to unload and get paid before closing!
